How do you get that rolled over top edge ??
Re: How do you get that rolled over top edge ??
Increase the wall length of your die to keep it straight on the one you're going to form. Lubricate the die and also put a small hole in the center die to reduce pressure and use air to force formed piece out of die.

I remember talking about this in another thread, at about the same time that this one was started.
I had pretty good results (as I remember) casting a die out of hard lead (Wheel weights mostly).
Keeping the die can in place was the hardest part of the process, as it wanted to float out when the lead was poured in.
I used another "can" for the outer part of the lead mold, with a bolt in the middle to help push the core can out.
Don't let the lead cool completely or the middle can is harder to push out. It'll make a few stoves before getting a bit wonky. But it's easy enough to just remelt and recast. Plus you're forming to the exterior size of the can instead of the inside size, so the bends are a bit larger.

Hello vibe
Here is the thread that you brought forth the idea of using lead:

I had a die made based on the bottle itself.

LOL. Not sure that that one would absolutely require the internal vents. But it's nice to see that the "improvement" lives on.

Nice klc. Glad you were able to get one to form.
Liquid has the unique ability to find it's way under the smallest crevices. Not necessary to make notches at base of inner wall.

I have tested with and without the vents. The one thing I have noticed when testing the stoves is that with the vents in place I can put iced water on the stove and it won't snuff out. Without the vents the stove dies.
I test the stoves indoors, on a granite slab with a heavy sauce pan filled with ice water.
The bottom "port holes" may not be necessary but it just seems to make sense having them.
I am not making these to sell. Just something to do. I don't work in the winter months and finding a hobby to tinker with is fun and productive.

The way your are approaching this new hobby is how we find out different things on stove building.
You're doing great. Thanks for experimenting. The vent hole technology is new to me. Lot better to have the vent holes than having the top rim dimpled like the bios stove. You're really onto something...good going!!!!

Did you forget about when Tinney was blaming bad performance on bad alcohol?

But did you make a cake with one of your stoves in a cardboard box???
I heard they used to teach the Scouts how to do that.
