Killer magpie

In Australia we do not have bears or big cats to worry about when bushwalking, other than a few deadly snakes and killer saltwater crocodiles in the far north, bushwalking in OZ is relatively safe. But in our spring the local magpies can get very aggressive, this usually happens in or near towns and cities, and they particularly like cyclists, I have been swooped several times this year. I can remember when I was kid my sister coming home with blood streaming down her head after being attached by a particularly aggressive magpie, they have very sharp pointy beaks and like to nip ears and put their beaks into heads.

This is a video taken near where I work in the grounds of a scientific research institution probably by some scientists who where sick of being attacked, they where trying to find a method of protecting cyclists.

Hi Tony, I just recently saw a tv show on thos killer salwater crocks up in OZ. Big, huge 15 footers 3 meters?

Magpies are up in the northern reaches of Canada and the USA. They can stay up there with loons. :o

Millions of dollars are spent on Magpie research and all they can come up with is an "afro" hair do  I like the plastic ties better, just get the longer ones :geek:

It is high tech research, below is an earlier version, the magpie is a real mean one, unfortunately different magpies attack different things, that one does not attack cyclist not wearing helmets but most do.

besides a few deadly snakes the worst thing I have to put up with is Mosquitoes.

hmm..
must be a different variety of magpie than the type i grew up with in the praries. they would never attack people. big chickensh-ts!!! clicking the safety off, or cocking an air rifle would send them scatterring for miles around.
