Make a tarp

Postby ConnieD » Thu Mar 15, 2012 8:39 pm

I like his ideas about a hot knife and using a chalk line. If you can use a large wood floor that may help with the layout.

I don't think anyone needs a 1-inch hem around the tarp, or, the heavy materials he has selected.

However, I do think he shows an excellent How To.

What do you think?

Remarks? Comments?

I didn't view the video but a 1" doubled edge might increase the strengths for the tie-outs;more area to sew them on with and strong edges.Generally I roll them over 1/2 to 3/4" twice so it doesn't unravel, double rows of stitching..then zigzag and an "X/square" over the area for the tie-outs.Mine won't pull off.I've had factory ones pull off..especially on ponchos.
Material weight and strength is dependent on how much $$$ you want to spend..or on what someone has horded from walmart they may want to use someday...

Last week I ordered some webbing for my upcoming try at a custom bridge. I've got some Out of The Box ideas to incorporate into it. Tactical Ideas :o

If you are going to sew anything..sew a tarp first...After that tents and hammocks are easier..

I came across a source to salvage some tarp material :)

You southern boys might be able to get some free salvaged tarp material if you live near one of the cotton processing companies.
