Temperatures plummit Alcohol stove survives!

Many times we hear that alcohol stoves are hard to light in cold weather. That might be true for most stoves but not all.

I did a test this morning in Northern Illinois. The temperature had dropped to minus -24 degrees. BbbRrrrr that's cold.

I used a " SS StarLyte" stove with one ounce of HEET. The second match ignited the stove. The capillary action of the ceramic fibers in the burner portion brings the fuel to the surface where it has plenty of oxygen to ignite.

Once the stove is lit, you can't blow it out. Snuff it out, yes.

How is the Starlyte with a Walmart Greasepot? It initially appears undersized for it.

I would agree with you. It would take practice to be able to balance it on a 2 inch diameter target. Not impossible, just takes patience and persistance.

one of those beercan pots that are supposedly not good for you to eat from. [yeah whatever........ ]

for larger pots i take the wire stand off the burner and use a s/s welded wire mesh screen potstand that's a bit lower. either rolled or tri-fold, don't matter which.

The best part about not having the stand is using the inversion method of the medicine cup to fuel with Alky. You don't lose a drop ! There's always the option of reinstalling the support after fueling or using a stand of your choice.

I can understand where you guys are coming from. A 2" dia. target is a challenge to the cook. It's the little challenges that set us apart from the rest.

The ultimate easy mans stove is the Ring of Fire. It sets at ground zero and need not be on flat ground. I made alot of those available on ebay over a year ago. They went all over the world. My inlaws became ill and passed away in the course of a year and my attentions were to them. I never went back to making the rof's available because they were labor intensive.
