Garage Sale Tarptent

Postby Ridgerunner » Mon Oct 06, 2008 9:10 pm

A couple summers ago, Ol' Stumpjumper and I stopped at a yard sale at a gentleman house who was a ScoutMaster and Commercial pilot and his kids had just graduated and were in college and he took a different job and had to move. I bought most of his backpacking gear he had for sale except the two Z-Rest for $5 ea.--- Screwed up on that one. The one treasure I did scarf up was this Black Diamond BetaMid and Floor accessory for $15. Set it up at turkey camp last year and was impressed with quality and weight. Packs down to the size of a softball. I'm looking for the bargain basement bugnet for it now.

Daren, After further research, I believe this tent is a Beta Light as it is very small and light when packed down. The following pic changes my mind.

that's a nice piece of kit at a steal of a deal.

i've got a MEC Guides Tarp that has well thought out grommet points. i've set it up in many different configurations, incuding a small teepee. the bag the tarp stores in is attached at the center-point with a toggle button and the bottom of the bag is reinforced with Cordura. trekking pole, stick, or kayak paddle goes in the bag and creates the center peak. rolls up to about 3" by 12".
