Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
Re: Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
Hi Zelph, any idea when this setup will be ready to buy?
Re: Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
At the end of this coming week. I only have 9 kits to make available. I think most of them are already have a name attached to them because I announced this new kit over at backpackinglight.com There was a thread over there that inspired the creation of putting a ridgeline on a titanium pot.
I thought the kit would make for a nice compact, multi fuel companion for use by one person.

Re: Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
What is the aim of the ridgeline in the pot? Is it mainly for weight reduction/one piece cone. There is still a lot of pot exposure to cooling air, where a two part cone would cover the entire pot.
Re: Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
I mainly see it for compactness.
Because hot air is rising continuously up the sides of the pot, there is no heat loss unless it's windy instead of just breezy. Let's say the penalty of heat loss is about the same amount of fuel folks use for "priming" their stoves if they have that type. One example is the 12-10 stove furnished by Trail Designs. Or the presurized ones by minibulldesigns.
Yes, there are penalties for lightweight and compactness
It's about "preference" I like "simple" the KISS principle applies
Looking at your windscreen tells me after a 1 years worth of use it's going to look kind of dog-eared if I were to use it. Assembling it time and time again will take it's toll. Now that's me doing the assembly
Nowa-days, we see people saying they want to do away with warm meals/drinks in favor of energy bars. They don't have the time to heat a meal

Re: Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
Are you making multiple sizes? (as in pot sizes)
thanks. I like the kit. It doesnt need that huge hole for the handles

Re: Titanium Cone and Toaks 550 pot
I'm going to do it with the 600 with handles. I found out by accident(keen observation/thinking
) that one handle can be removed and the remaining one can be squeezed and it will act as a pot grabber that will allow picking up the pot and pour water into a bowl/Ziploc etc Each handle weighs 9 grams. The toaks 600 allows 2 cups volume of water with 1/2" headroom so water will not boil over rim of pot. I like the 600 for my needs. Many can get by with just the 550.
I have a straight wall windscreen/pot support in the works for the use with esbit only. I'm finalizing the closure on it, Should be ready in a week or so.
