The BSA prohibition on DIY stoves; requiring commercially made stoves is for those which use chemical fuels.
A DIY wood stove is not prohibited.

Al foil is reusable. parchment is not. in higher temps, the paper can burn.

I dehydrate my own leftovers too. A great additional to many dishes is sweet potatoes (yams actually). Not only do they add a great nutirional punch, but the flavor addition is fantastic, plus they make the sauce creamier. Amazing what they pair well with. A favorite pairing is with black beans. Hey Zelph,
You will have to visit us here in NY sometime for a hammock trip. There is indeed BEER in them thar hills. You just have to know where to "dig". Ordin is right, the empty cans are definitely easier to remove.

We have friends that have chickens and their eggshells are harder than store bought ones..must be their feed.. I am sure it is. Your friends chickens probably are able to eat bugs... their preferred diet and thus get plenty of calcium from the insect exoskeleton. These free range eggs taste better ...

I remember in middle school science class we distilled wood into methanol. Not sure of the alc content % though. I am sure the process used more propane than the alcohol it produced.

In all my years hanging, I used a pad and sleeping bag with none of the problems or difficulties that are often mentioned by people. I truly believe it was due to the specific hammock. The hammock is the Claytor. The Claytor has a double bottom which makes the use of a pad very easy, never an issue....
