Re: SPARK-LITE Fire Starter

Ranger bands are cut up bands from inner tubes. We used to have several on our knife sheaths and various gear. Pretty much used to strap anything to anything. It's an easy way to securely strap items together.

Re: SPARK-LITE Fire Starter

You could also put 1 "ranger band" around the outside of the case. The rubber makes a great fire starter and makes good black smoke for signal fires as well as creating a loop than can be used to strap your emergency kit to other items such as a knife sheath.

Re: SPARK-LITE Fire Starter

I see what he's saying. Why put a lanyard on the striker if it will be stored in the case?
If that is your intent, then I would make a lanyard that attatches to the case instead of the striker.

Re: SPARK-LITE Fire Starter

I've been using the swivel clips to attach bails to my pots. For your purposes I would recommend an eye screw similar to this: http://www.craftamerica.com/images/products/screw_eye_brass_bright_crop.jpg The one shown are brass and may be easier to find than stainless. Not sure how much room you have...

Re: Realityguy's 10 minute hole punch...

Might want to try using a stepless bit.

I only use the stepped bits for wallowing holes that aren't quite round or if it is soft metal like aluminum sheeting.

Re: bio lite stove

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a gimmick. But it is certainly not ideal for the 3rd world. Generally speaking moving parts and electronics is a bad idea for people who can't afford food. Where will they get replacement parts? Rocket stoves are much more the way to go. It is very interesting to m...

Re: Baking with my "Jack Stove" cook set...

Sorry, about that. The original video has been moved and replaced with this one since I changed the cook set. The tools, amount/type of fuel and bake times have all changed so the last one is it.

Re: Baking with my "Jack Stove" cook set...

After some more testing and product development I have finished the Jack Stove Cook Set. I changed the set to include an 8oz stainless cup that can be used for baking instead of the Ziploc container. The stainless cup also gives me a good drinking cup or a smaller pot to heat a cup of tea with. This...

Re: new gerber knife

Let us know how that knife works for you. I considered getting one but there were a lot of complaints that the tang does not go all the way through the handle and the pommel was snapping off with very little effort. It sounded like they were going to make changes to address this but I haven't heard ...

I just got a kick out of the "controversy" over the "new" idea that has been around for decades... http://www.zjrunfa.com/web/productshow449.asp http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/266402329/corrugated_aluminum_foil_wrapper_for_chocolate.html http://www.micromark.com/Corrugated-Aluminum-Sheet-0...
