Re: The StarLyte Alcohol Stove

Okay. Yeah. I was getting that "cone inside a cone" effect with one of my numerous variations, but instead of a nice even blue flame the top was licking yellow and orange. Maybe I need to play some more varying the size of my donut hole. I figured I was either adding too much air, or blowi...

Re: Happy Spring

Is this prompted by that jimmer guy on BPL that keeps trying to pick a fight with you? I let my subscription over there lapse, otherwise I would have posted something about him being an arse. I find his aggression to be off-putting.

Re: The StarLyte Alcohol Stove

You know how sometimes what you think is going to happen .... doesn't? Today I took my brand new lovingly christmas-gifted Starlyte (to replace the last one I destroyed) and I hacked a hole right in the center. I was convinced a center draft hole would provide a slew of benefits: More air, eliminate...

Happy Spring

I just wanted to say "Hi". I actually pop on here a few times a week to read old posts and catch up on new posts, but I have not been logging in or posting ... shame on me. So I just wanted to stop and post and say "happy warm weather" to everyone thats around and let you all kno...

Re: StarLyte XL 4.5

"Not sure what they use today but I use the same material as they did back in the year???? when I first developed the StarLyte" Oh sorry I wasn't very clear. I know you use that same absorbent material and I wouldn't ask for you to give away your secret sauce. LOL. I meant what appears to ...

Re: StarLyte XL 4.5

Interesting. A few off the cuff comments: Will reducing the thermal feedback over those top edges reduce the stoves ability to use all it's fuel efficiently, considering the orientation of the absorbent fibers in those corners. If its necessary, can you put the carbon felt insulator on the inside an...

Re: The StarLyte Alcohol Stove

LOL. I should have figured you've tried the "center-choke" idea. Have you ever tried a center draft, donut style stove with the starlyte filler? "an exposed wick is necessary for ignition". If I read old posts and discoveries from the Alladin heater project properly, that exposed...

Re: The StarLyte Alcohol Stove

Lol. I do EVERYTHING in the name of science. "Honey, why did you burn the toast?" Reply: "Science!" I'm also spitball wondering if a reverse choke would help kero work with the Starlyte. IOW instead of making a smaller center "burn hole", as in your simmer ring and modi...

Re: The StarLyte Alcohol Stove

Hmmm. Not the answer I expected. Interesting.

I realize you would be probably making a best guess, but would you say the Starlyte doesn't burn it clean because with keros lower vapor pressure, the available vapors just aren't getting a sufficient supply of air/vigorous mixing of air.
