Re: Help me figure this out

Thanks for all the suggestions Zelph! I experimented more today using 1 ounce of alcohol and had no problem at all with any of the stoves getting to boil. My work table is a 5" thick tool makers granite table and I moved the stoves around on it in case I was warming it up in the same spot. I ha...

Help me figure this out

I've been a backpacker for a long time but have been out of it for a number if years. Well, I'm back and after my last trip, 3 weeks ago, in a blizzard in northern Michigan, I've decided to start using alcohol stoves again and I've come across something that's driving me nuts! I bought a Caldera con...

My latest stove

I posted this earlier, but somehow it got deleted. Anyway...click on the below link to check out my latest stove. I like to narrate my videos, but my kids were fighting with their swords they got from Chuckie Cheese. This stove took me a while to make only because I was on a mission to find the larg...

Re: JB weld

Being in the tool & die business, we use a product called Devcon. You can find it in the same area as JB. It doesn't seem to be affected by alcohol and It dries in about 2 hours and can handle 400 deg.

Re: New stove

Hey Ridgerunner, Yeah, a windscreen would most likely improve the boil times. I just didn't put one on so that the video would be clearer. I did think of another way of making the false bottom so that you wouldn't need a screw rivet gun. Take a piece of aluminum about the same size as the inside bot...

Re: New stove

Hey zelph....is there any stove that will boil a pint with 1/2 oz alcohol? I'm going through all of mine and I have yet to find one.
My last one is the Super Cat, but I don't think its going to make it either. Nope I just checked....none of mine make it at 1/2 oz.

Re: New stove

1/2 oz wouldn't do it. I had to use 3/4 oz and it took 7 1/2 minutes. I also had to shorten the pot stand legs, but I made a second set so now I can do both. I also painted the stove fuschia color so you could see it when you make your hot toddy :D

My latest stove

Hi all...check out the link below to see my latest stove. I'm pretty happy with it. I can boil a pint of water in about 4 1/2-5 minutes. After boil, I can simmer for about another 10-15 minutes on 1 oz of alcohol. I really like my pot stand legs and how everything nests inside the tin. Check it out ...

Re: Dubbin tin stove.

DarenN...very nice indeed! I've made a similar one and I'm getting ready to post it on You Tube. I've kitchen tested it, but I want to test it out in the cold wet snow to quite any skeptics about alcohol stoves. My simmer plate is sort of the same, but different. Please keep an eye out for it this w...
